Though no concise definition exists, mental health is basically your attitude and approach to life. Psychological, environmental, genetic, or physiological factors have a profound effect on overall mental development.
What is mental illness?
Mental illness impairs your ability to perform routine tasks, foster healthy relationships, or cope with anger or stress. It may be classified on the basis of extreme mood swings, irrational or destructive thought patterns, and behavioral problems.
How important is mental health?
Your mental health has a huge impact on every aspect of your life.
Self-image
Good mental health means appreciating your achievements and accepting your shortcomings. A mental illness can cause an inferiority complex, a negative body image, and intense feelings of self-hate, anger, disgust, and uselessness, which could mutate into extreme depression, psycho-social disorders, or eating disorders. Holistic Health Trends Expand Roles For Nurses in Health Reform

The purpose of nursing is to support people in getting and staying well through educating, collaborating with and advocating for the health of the public. This definition covers a variety of roles from health education, consultation and screening (community, workplace) to primary (schools, clinics), secondary (long-term, clinic) and tertiary (institutional) care. Nearly everyone at some time in their life needs and can be served well by consulting a professional nurse.
Registered nurses (RNs) make up the largest health care occupation. There are about 2.6 million nursing jobs (US Dept. of Labor) in the US and 14.5 million worldwide (WHO).
Even though ninety seven percent of the population, who can effectively use nursing expertise, is not in an institution; sixty percent of nurses work in tertiary institutional nursing roles. This is why when people think of nurses, they think of hospital care.

Definition Of Health Science

As we are fast developing in terms of technology as well as other fields of science, our language too is getting more and more specific. You must have now noticed new terminology such as ‘health science’. Do you know what this means? Well this is not a new field of science but one that has been there for long.
The term health sciences can refer to many things. Man’s health has several aspects including emotional, psychological as well as physical. Each of these has separate science streams which again comprise of sub streams and divisions when it comes to specific aspect of the human health. Health means well being. The overall wellbeing of an individual is the sum total of his physical, emotional and psychological health together with the attitude.
Take the word science. What does it mean to you? Science denotes a scientific approach to the study of the particular subject where in the principles elucidated can be tested and verified.
